Tylecodon wallichii subsp. wallichii branched without pegs

This old Tylecodon wallichii subsp. wallichii plant near Barrydale has little of the commonly seen phyllopodia remaining upon the bare, grey stems below this year’s growth of pale, blue-green and succulent leaves. These often-seen leaf-base hangers-on have given the plant the common name of pegleg butterbush.

The smallest leaves are about cylindrical, channelling on their upper sides usually starting quite soon. Variable curving may happen before the abruptly tapering leaf-tips are about erect (Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
