Tylecodon wallichii subsp. wallichii flowers

The Tylecodon wallichii subsp. wallichii buds are pointed, the five petals showing deep folds or seams at their margins where they will separate. The pointed sepals at the back of each flower are less than half the petal length, coloured similarly.

The inside surfaces of the open flower lobes curl back strongly, yellower than the pale greenish yellow of the outsides.

The ten stamens occur in two whorls of five each at different lengths. The thickish oblong anthers are paler than the petal yellow. Anthers have dropped off their filaments in several cases in picture. The antherless filament tips diverge more, probably as they dry.

Some Tylecodon species are pollinated by wasps and sunbirds (Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
