Tetragonia reduplicata stem and flowers

A stem section of Tetragonia reduplicata may present flowers in several stages of development during spring, preceded by green or reddish, globular buds. The stalked flowers grow solitary or in small axillary clusters.

In some flowers the four segments are still erect around the ample cluster of stamens; in fully open ones the segments spread. The open flower segments appear narrower once the margins curve down or become rolled under. The inside surfaces of the segments are also yellower, while the anthers lose their yellow colouring with age.

There are older flowers in picture developing fruits below the segments, as well as a grey-brown one that is dead and dry without a fruit having formed (iNaturalist).
