Wahlenbergia pulvillus-gigantis is a herb that spreads into bright green, mat-like cushions of leaves on Drakensberg rockfaces.

The species is endemic to a small area near the Sani Pass in South Africa and Lesotho. This photo was taken in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg near the Lesotho border in January.

The habitat is high elevation grassland, often on grassy cliffs. As in the picture, the plants are often found on steep slopes. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (iSpot; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
