Wahlenbergia pulvillus-gigantis spreads into bright green, mat-like cushions of leaves on Drakensberg rockfaces. As in the picture, the plants are often found on steep slopes.

The species is endemic to a small area near the Sani Pass in South Africa and Lesotho. This photo was taken in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg near the Lesotho border in January.

South Africa has 170 species of Wahlenbergia. They are annual or perennial herbs, while some are shrublets (iSpot; JSTOR).
