Ursinia anthemoides flowerhead

An Ursinia anthemoides flowerhead has one ring of ray florets. They spread around the dark or yellow disc, depending on whether the small, five-lobed disc florets are open or not. The rays may be black at the base, their lower surfaces dark(er). Flowerhead diameter is from 1,5 cm to 6 cm.

The fertile disc florets develop into flask-shaped fruit. The pappus attached to it comprises five scales.

The specific name, anthemoides, is derived from the flower’s resemblance to those of some members of the Anthemis (chamomile) genus (Andrew, 2017; Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
