Tritoniopsis lata, commonly the snakeflower or in Afrikaans the groot rietpypie (big little reed pipe), is a wiry, cormous perennial reaching heights from 25 cm to 50 cm. Up to three veined leaves and an unbranched stem are grown.
The pink flowers in a loose spike have six clawed, wavy tepals, the dorsal, upper one the biggest. The flower tube is from 7 mm to 10 mm long. Flowering happens in autumn.
The species distribution is in the southwest of the Western Cape, from the Cape Peninsula to Tulbagh and Bredasdorp.
The habitat is rocky fynbos slopes in sandstone along seeps and drainage lines. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Marais, (Ed.), 2017; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
