The photo shows the way in which the protective, motherly sepals of Zygophyllum lichtensteinianum buds are removed from centre stage in the life of the flower, relegated to being hardly noticed when the yellow corolla unfolds, released from calyx care. The rounded spoon-shaped sepals relinquish their covering grasp while the thin petals enlarge, pushing forward to spread as their genetic endowment allows them.
The long, fleshy flower stalks have a pinkish tint near the base. General colouring is pale green in several shades. The twin leaves in picture stretch up like hands in supplicatory mode. Their condition appears so healthy that one may wonder what they could be asking for.
But life is like that: those having little often plead or demand less than those living in luxury.
