The leaves appear small, the winged fruits big on this Zygophyllum microcarpum branch. That is ironic, given the specific name, microcarpum, meaning small fruit (Latin). Even stranger is one of the listed synonyms, an earlier name of this plant: Z. microcarpum var. macrocarpum, the large-fruited small fruited Zygophyllum!

Someone called his son Passenger from the word printed on his train ticket; and Robinson Crusoe called his man Friday, recognising the day on which he first saw the man that became his assistant.

So, for names there is a reason, or maybe only a song. Information about fruit measurements of Zygophyllum species should resolve the issue; or not (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
