Apart from an open flower, these Zygophyllum microcarpum stem-tips display opening buds and young, half-formed fruit that still retain the flower style at the tip of its samara. Each stem-tip may bear one solitary flower.
Yellow flower colouring is present in the anthers and calyx, considerably more than in the spoon-shaped, whitish petals. This Zygophyllum species has no maroon or brown markings on its petals, frequently found on the flowers of other species.
The long, opposite leaf stalks curve in, carrying their paired, chubby leaflets like antelope ears. Tiny white hairs are present on all visible plant parts apart from the petals in picture (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; iSpot).
