Zygophyllum simplex translucent succulence

The richly succulent Zygophyllum simplex plant parts prove not to be smooth-surfaced when viewed closely, although both leaf and fruit manage some dull shine. The leaf surfaces in picture display hazy, whitish mottling on a translucent green background, not nearly uniformly coloured.

Translucence reaches a higher level in the biggest fruit in picture, allowing a glimpse of its developing dark seeds in vertical internal arrays in the bulging segments. The erect, stick-like style persists upon the fruit, although some desiccation can be detected in an upper part.

The younger fruits present are reddish, less bulging into fully delineated segments and less translucent (Smith, et al, 2017; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
