The Brachystelma macropetalum flower has long, yellow-green, wiry and curving petals. The specific name, macropetalum, is derived from the Greek words makros meaning long and petalon meaning a thin plate and later petal, referring to the long petals of the flower.
The flowers grow solitary from leaf axils or at nodes where there may be no leaves, each flower on a long, hairy peduncle, subtended by a small, lance-shaped, leaf-like bract.
The seed follicles that appear later are paired and cylindrical, slightly diverging from the base (Onderstall, 1996; JSTOR).
