The leafy Brachystelma macropetalum plant in picture branched both at the base where it produced sturdy stems and more recently higher up. These plants reach heights around 60 cm from a perennial rootstock.
The soft, wavy leaves are opposite, ascending on short petioles. The ovate leaves have acutely pointed tips and taper abruptly or are rounded at the base. Cream-coloured veins are prominent on the lower leaf surfaces, the blades covered in fine whitish hairs, more so on the lower surfaces.
The leaf dimensions are from 13 mm to 38 mm long and from 6 mm to 3,2 mm wide (Onderstall, 1996; JSTOR).
