    The fragrant flowers of Babiana ambigua are presented in a spike, lower than the leaf tips on a short and curving stalk. The petal margins on the flowers in the photo are roughly crisped below the broadest part of each petal, entire and smooth near its tip.

    White central patches occur on some petals of the marked corolla lip, while the other lip, also consisting of three petals, is unmarked. These petal markings end in dark, acute angularity at the petal base. Note that on one flower the white patch occurs only on the central petal (of the marked corolla lip), but on the two lateral petals of the next flower (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning, 2007; iSpot).
