Bauhinia galpinii flower

This Bauhinia galpinii flower shows the long claws or stalks of its five reddish, rounded to paddle-shaped petals, crinkled around their upper margins. Bauhinia flowers bear ten stamens of which some may be sterile, reduced to staminodes.

The spathe-like calyx, split down one side, has a pointed tip when still closed.

Pale veins fan out from a leaflet base in the photo (Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
