The Brabejum stellatifolium stem-tip in the centre of the photo has grey-green leaf surfaces without a trace of gloss. This was seen within metres of some glossy-leaved stem-tips during Kirstenbosch in late spring.

The petioles are only slightly redder than the creamy yellow midribs. The marginal toothing is sparse and shallow to superficial here, the lowermost teeth much closer to the base on one side of the blade than the other. There is very little evidence of lateral veins on these leaves, while the midribs remain visible although fainter to their tips.

Other, smaller stem-tips in the photo periphery display marked colour variations in their young leaves (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
