Berzelia albiflora, previously known as Brunia albiflora, is commonly called the coffee bush for the aroma exuded by the plant. The shrub is tall, erect and slender, growing to 3 m with its lateral branches usually much thinner than the main, central stem. Since flowers appear at the top of the stems, mature plants may bear their flowerheads above the heads of people strolling in old fynbos and go unnoticed.
This plant is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Bean and Johns, 2005; www.plantzafrica.com; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
