Bulbine succulenta leaves

The few, thickly succulent leaves of Bulbine succulenta are nearly cylindrical, growing in an erect rosette. They are soft-textured, clasping the stem base. Leaf dimensions are about 10 cm long and 1 cm wide. 

Often pale green to grey-green, the leaves in picture are stressed pink, their desiccation affecting both the tips and the lower, veined bodies. Summer heat usually truncates or blunts only the tips that die back.

The leaves may become angled in a northerly direction, inclining towards the sun in winter; erect in spring. This tendency brought the species the common name of compass plant (Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
