Bulbine praemorsa flower

The flower of Bulbine praemorsa has six broadly elliptic to ovate tepals like all members of its family, the Asphodelaceae and other lily-related plants. In this photo the tepals are reflexed away from the inner flower parts. Along the centre of the tepals in picture a narrow dark band that is green on the outer surface runs from base to tip. Flower colour is yellow or orange.

The six stamens spread, displaying their conspicuously hairy filaments. The yellow hairs grow in a dense cluster from a region in the upper half of the filament. Each hair has a tiny globule at its tip. The stamens have granular, pale yellow anthers. A long thin style is also visible (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
