When the rounded Dicoma picta shrub is replete with stem-tip flowerheads, the knoppiesbos (little knobs bush) common name appears relevant. The numerous disc florets of every head dilate to their tops, the five corolla lobes separated deeply.
Few narrow ray florets spread around each head, still present in many cases, although all robbed of their early pink-purple colouring.
The photo was taken on a stony patch near Oudtshoorn (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
