Dicoma picta sparse rays

The ray florets in the Dicoma picta flowerheads appear truncated at their tips, but recurving should be borne in mind, obscuring the more rounded or pointed actual tips turned down.

Each disc floret in picture has five strongly recurved corolla lobes spreading around its tiny mouth. Dicoma disc florets are bisexual, anthers and styles exserted at different stages. Hairy bristles abound in the heads in picture, even during flowering.

The green buds present, prepared for the late show, display multiple rows of narrow involucral bracts still covering their charges.

The solitary bee seems busy enough and content; no sign of complaining about the food (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
