Brunsvigia radulosa

This Brunsvigia radulosa umbel appears to be exhausted by midsummer flowering, exposed among rocks and short grass near Hannover in the Great Karoo. The strong peduncle, up to 50 cm long and 3,5 cm wide usually has more resilience.

Two spathe bracts that cover the flower buds during their early development tend to persist where the pedicels are joined at the top of the peduncle.

In a hurry to set seed, the pedicels of some lower flowers have already elongated, forming fruit (Duncan, et al, 2016; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
