Gonialoe variegata flowering in sparse veld

A plant does not have to be big in the arid Karoo to be impressive. These three flowering Gonialoe variegata plants are for a while the most notable members of their stoical community.

They shall not be ignored by any would-be pollinator living in a bush of the neighbourhood. Neither will the little yellow daisy… for food is available here, but not that abundantly. It is springtime in the Ceres Karoo, but not everybody is participating yet.
