Moraea ciliata is an uintjie that surprises with its wide range of flower colours, the one in picture being fairly rare.
The small plant occurs more widely than Namaqualand, in the Western Cape, the Little Karoo and into the Eastern Cape.
A seedling has a long, channelled leaf, while mature plants have short, broadly channelled leaves (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
