Calobota sericea, the silver pea

The flowers of Calobota sericea, the silver pea, grow in fairly long racemes, although only a limited section of a raceme may have open ones at any given time.

The calyx and fruit pod are covered in tiny, silky hairs. This distinguishes the plant from the similar C. cytisoides bearing smooth calyces and pods.

Flowers and pods are commonly browsed in the veld. The plant has fodder crop potential in semi-arid regions (Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; F. Müller (ARC), 2018).
