This Annesorhiza altiscapa plant in bloom was photographed in August below the Maskam Mountains near Vanrhynsdorp, the southern border of Namaqualand.

The inflorescence, radiating in branched clusters (or compound umbels), is very yellow, comprising numerous tiny florets.

Several species of these sometimes thick-rooted herbs occur in Namaqualand, their leaves usually dry at bloomtime. The indigenous tribes of the region ate the roots as a vegetable (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
