This shy flower of Caesia contorta, commonly called grasslily or sokkiesblom (socks flower), nods in Langkloof fynbos during January. The rhizomatous plant is grass-like, its flower lasting for one day.

There is a narrow, brown bract growing next to the pedicel on the flower stem. The slender bud of the next flower to open is well-spaced up the stem (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
