Erica glandulosa subsp. fourcadei bud stages

Erica glandulosa subsp. fourcadei presents three inflorescences here in different developmental stages. They are always umbel-shaped clusters at stem-tips. This is one of the interesting ericas growing at Nature’s Valley.

The gland-tipped hairs covering about all of the plant except the corollas, tend to collect dust, rendering the plant less attractive than what it may look like shortly after rain.

This hardy plant grows well under the hands of even the less than expert gardeners, so it has earned a place in fynbos dominated gardens (Baker and Oliver, 1967; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
