Helichrysum teretifolium in the De Hoop Nature Reserve

Helichrysum teretifolium flowerheads appear in clusters of small discs at the ends of the erect branches, white around the edges and yellow in the centre like miniature poached eggs. The yellow part is the collection of many small disc florets, the hallmark of numerous Asteraceae species.

Seen from the side, the flowerhead is bell-shaped, covered in small creamy or pinkish bracts. Before they open, the flowerhead looks creamy white as only the bracts are visible yet. Blooming occurs from before midwinter lasting through spring (Manning, 2007; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
