Hemimeris sabulosa has erect, dark purple stems in picture, branching decussately. The stems may also be prostrate while usually square in cross-section.
There are some long and uneven internodes between leaf-pairs, the stems about hairless, i.e. glabrous. The leaves have inconspicuous venation, their petioles channelled above (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
