These succulent leaves are unusual in the Hermannia genus. Grey and sometimes velvety, or shades of green are common among Hermannia but usually on flat blades. The leaves are here pinnate, comprising few thickly succulent, club-shaped leaflets (sometimes also lobes), on both sides of the rachis.

The young leaflets are slightly flattened with a terminal mucro still protruding from some tips. The surfaces are shiny and hairless, yellow-green or shades of red-brown.

The relatively unknown species may be called (or become) Hermannia orgasmiodorata. If it hadn’t been for the curious odour, H. succulenta would have done just fine (David Gwynne-Evans, personal communication, 2022).
