Hermannia filifolia var. filifolia

Hermannia filifolia var. filifolia is a much-branched straggling or erect shrublet growing narrow, grey-green leaves in spaced tufts at the tips of the newest stems. Big parts of the thin, woody upper stems in picture are bare, slightly rough in parts and brown or grey.

The stalked flowers mostly nod, growing from the young stem-tips.

The distribution of the variety ranges across the Western Cape, the west of the Eastern Cape, slightly into the southeast of the Northern Cape and the far south of the Free State. The photo was taken on Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn.

The species overall is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
