Malva arborea has its fruits sheltered in the hairy calyces. The four or five acutely pointed calyx lobes curve in over a ring of shiny green, single-seeded fruits (mericarps).

A plant of the Malvaceae genus has a three-lobed epicalyx below its actual calyx, positioned close to it. The three epicalyx lobes spread horizontally below the calyx of each developing fruit in picture. All parts seen here are hairy apart from the fruits and the withered, blue-grey corollas (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Wikipedia; iNaturalist).
