Sutera foetida flowers

The stalked flowers of Sutera foetida grow from upper leaf axils or at stem-tips.

The calyx is five-lobed, somewhat unequal and holding the tube, but the five rounded lobes of the corolla are equal and spreading. The corolla tube is cylindrical, darker coloured on the outside than the pink, white or mauve insides of the lobes. The corolla is about 1 cm in diameter, the tube slightly longer.

The four stamens grow in two pairs of unequal length, some seen in the mouth with the style tip.

Flowering happens from late winter through spring. The photo was taken in October (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
