Argyrolobium rupestre subsp. rupestre is a prostrate dwarf perennial. The taproot is woody, the stems are up to 40 cm long.

The species distribution is from the Eastern Cape through KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State to Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo; also found in some neighbouring countries.

The habitat is in moist places and along streambeds in grassland and scrub at medium to higher elevations. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
