Anemone vesicatoria flower

The white to yellowish-green flowers of Anemone vesicatoria have no petals, but about 14 spreading petal-like sepals appearing like petals. Flower diameter is about 2 cm.

The sepals are oblong tapering to acute tips, but on close inspection their shapes show much variation and some contortion. Glimpses of pink (as in the photo) may be present on the longitudinally lined sepal surfaces that also exhibit a little fleshy shine and some translucence.

Large clusters of stamens are found in the yellow-ringed green flower centres. Flowering happens from late winter to midspring (Manning, 2007; Gledhill, 1981; Bean and Johns, 2005).
