The Aloinopsis genus of mesembs has a name that indicates a resemblance to aloes. The elaborate underground system of tuberous roots possessed by these plants causes the appearance of several heads, rosettes aboveground. The genus name Deilanthe is a (discarded?) synonym. These plants withstand extreme temperatures and drought and are normally found in environments characterized by these features.
