Acrodon bellidiflorus woody capsules

The fruit capsules of Acrodon bellidiflorus, previously A. duplessiae, curve up here, dry and grey on long stalks. These old capsules are hard and woody, shaped as an inverted cone below and a shallow dome above.

There are five deep locules or compartments. The valves open only to an erect position for seed dispersal. There are no valve wings, while the expanding keels are pointed. The covering membranes are stiff and cover the locules comprehensively. The closing bodies are large.

The seeds are pear-shaped with rough surfaces (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998).
