Vanheerdea roodiae is a compact dwarf perennial, a leaf succulent branching mat-like on the ground, its twenty to forty leaf bodies not sunken into the ground. Internodes on the stems are very short.
The species is endemic to the Northern Cape in Bushmanland north of Loeriesfontein.
The habitat is dry, barren scrub in gravelly, sandy and limestone soils where the plants grow fully exposed. The rainfall is low here and temperature extremes common. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Frandsen, 2017; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; https://llifle.com; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
