Leipoldtia schultzei flat grey capsules

This plant was photographed in April at Minwater near Oudtshoorn, before flowering. A couple of fruit capsules are still present from last year, although the photo unfortunately does not show them clearly.

The comparatively flat fruit capsules dry to a pale grey colour. The number of locules visible on the top is ten in this species, the number contributing to plant identification (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998).
