Schlechteranthus albiflorus leaf-pairs

The thickly succulent leaf-pairs of Schlechteranthus albiflorus are fused to about half their length. Leaf pairs succeed each other on the stem in decussate manner, perpendicular to the next and preceding pair.

The columnar lower half of the leaf-pair has seams where the two leaves meet and slight keel ridges that continue across the backs of the spreading upper halves to the mucronate leaf-tips. The inner leaf surface facing up begins halfway up the leaf length where the leaves diverge.

A fine, sometimes cartilaginous ridge indicates the leaf margin. The smooth surfaces are blue-green to grey-green and finely mottled (Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist).
