    The clustered, short-stalked fruits of Moquiniella rubra are ellipsoid berries that start off green and smooth. They turn yellow and red as they ripen, even slightly translucent.

    The specific epithet, rubra, is derived from the Latin word ruber meaning red, probably referring to the fruit as well as the flowers that are mainly orange.

    It is not known what eats these fruits, but they do appeal, probably tried by some of the veld’s hungry that wander around in search of sustenance.
