Orobanche ramosa, tallest stem dead

Orobanche ramosa grows several branched stems of up to 60 cm in height from its sturdy root. The flowers are tubular, white, blue or purple, based on a calyx of yellowish sepals.

The stems are thicker at the base and have small scales visible on them, the equivalent of leaves. Glandular hairs cover the stems and other plant parts. Much viable seed, fine as dust, is dispersed from one plants flowering.

The specific name, ramosa, is derived from the Latin words ramus meaning branch, bough or twig and -osus indicating abundance or full development, referring to its profusion of branches.

This plant was photographed in spring close to the beach at Onrus. It grew to only about 10 cm and by midsummer it was gone (Andrew, 2017; Wikipedia).
