Anaxeton asperum subsp. asperum inflorescence

An Anaxeton asperum subsp. asperum inflorescence has more flowerheads in one corymb than florets in one flowerhead. The solitary, long-stalked corymbs are about 3,5 cm in diameter.

The four to six rows of white, papery involucral bracts around each flowerhead are all of the same length, the outer ones only more inclined to spread if space allows. The outer florets of the disciform heads are female and few, the male ones in the centre more in number.

Each floret has five teeth or corolla lobes, the male ones having yellow anthers at the top, the female ones styles. The anthers are tailed, the style branches flattened.

The fruits growing from the female florets are narrow with pappuses present (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Bean and Burman, 1985; iNaturalist).
