Ancylobotrys capensis, commonly called the wild apricot and previously scientifically Landolphia capensis, is a dense, multi-stemmed shrub that grows numerous trailing, rambling and intertwining branches. The hardy, evergreen plant has a milky, rubbery latex. It forms part of the Apocynaceae family. The generic name is sometimes written Ancylobothrys.
The species distribution is in Gauteng, North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, also in some neighbouring countries. The photo was taken near Marikana.
The habitat is exposed rocks in open, wooded grassland. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Schmidt, et al, 2002; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Tree Society of South Africa, 1974; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
