The bracts around the central discs of the Achyranthemum paniculatum flowerheads, the sewejaartjies in picture have faded to white already. The discs, each comprising many florets, are yellow at their peak, pale before and dark afterwards. Flowerheads open to 1,5 cm in diameter.

The cluster of flowerheads on stalks that branch near the stem tip is typically flat-topped or nearly so. The stalks have leaves right to the flowerhead (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; iSpot).
