Senna italica subsp. arachoides leaves

The leaf of Senna italica subsp. arachoides grows on stalks of 3,5 cm long and comprises four to six pairs of leaflets. The leaflet is about oblong, rounded at both ends. Its base is slightly asymmetrical, the tip notched, sometimes with protruding mucro or hair-tip. Leaflet midribs are prominent upon the lower leaf surfaces.

The leaflet petiolule (stalk) is very short, but so sturdy that on close inspection no doubt remains about its existence. These stalks angle their leaflet pairs between upwards and forwards and towards each other along the leaf rachises.

Leaf colour is medium to bright green. Hairiness is variable, most along the margins. Leaves becomes 4 cm to 10 cm long (Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Gericke, 2000; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iSpot; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
