Dyerophytum africanum

Dyerophytum africanum, sometimes called wild plumbago, in Afrikaans the pronkbos (prance bush or strut bush) and botanically previously Vogelia africana, is a laxly branched, rounded shrub reaching 60 cm in height.

The species is found in the Northern Cape and Namibia, common in the Richtersveld and present in Namaqualand and Bushmanland. This plant was seen in the Goegap Nature Reserve.

The plants are found in low-lying arid areas in sandy soil. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century.

Only one of the three Dyerophytum species occurs in southern Africa (Williamson, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist; http://gadi.agric.za; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
