The shallowly bell-shaped involucre of a Schistostephium umbellatum flowerhead comprises several rows of pointed, overlapping bracts. The bract tips may recurve, veering away from the involucre. The bracts are greyish green and faintly hairy.

The flowerhead has a longish, ribbed peduncle (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
