Syzygium cordatum bears fruit eaten by children, animals and birds. An alcoholic drink is prepared from the fermented fruits.

The wood is used in carpentry and boat building after water seasoning.

Several medicinal uses are known for parts of this tree in local traditional healing.

The tree is often planted in gardens, parks and at roadsides (Coates Palgrave, 2002; www.plantzafrica.com).
