Mundulea sericea subsp. sericea in Sekukhuniland

Mundulea sericea subsp. sericea or cork bush, is here less than small tree, more like a shrub. Its flowers and fruits are typical of the Fabaceae family to which it belongs.

There are silvery hairs covering the compound leaves, corky bark upon the older stems, conspicuous mauve to purple flowers in the (spring and summer) blooming season. It is generally an admired tree, and garden plant, whether in bloom or not.

The tree is used in traditional medicine and cultural rituals involving magic. Certain butterflies breed on it (Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
